As of today, our Dear Son (DS) (with 95% probability, as the ultrasound nurse put it), is now full term. So, anticipation is thick in the air….. but still there is ground to be covered in terms of getting ready. Just finished lanolizing all the woolen baby materials we had bought and that brings up the topic of our choices for DS.
We have decided to go as natural as possible with the birthing. This means Mom is going to avoid any pharmacological interventions unless absolutely necessary and at least for the first few years, we are going to try our best to create an environment that is chemical/pesticide/artificial/synthetic material free.
We have chosen to go with organic cloth diapers together with organic woolen diaper covers, and baby wears from ‘Under the Nile’ brand, which claims to be organic and metallic dye free, natural dye based clothing. We did have to agree on Snappy diaper fasteners even though they are made from synthetic material. All the swaddling blanket, wash cloth, wipes, bibs, mittens and caps for DS are all organic cotton based. The disinfectant for his diapers is going to be Grape Seed Extract Oil and the detergent is Kiss Your Face Olive Oil soap.
We still need to watch the video on how to use the cloth diapers and practice various birthing positions from the Lamaze class. Also, need to pack up a hospital kit – crib cover, swaddle blankets, woolen crib sheet, diapers, diaper covers, wash cloth, wipes, bib, mittens, cap and socks. Also, we are slowly working through the books, The Aware Baby and What babies say before they can talk. Hopefully we can finish reading them off cover to cover atleast once before we go to the hospital …… we still have about 10 chapters to go in all!! Got to get the infant car seat inspected by the department of public safety. Also, need to practice baby wearing a few more times…..
Would welcome any suggestions for a 100% organic cotton diaper bag – the ERGO diaper bag which claimed to be made of organic cotton, turned out to have linings from synthetic material. So, we had to return it.
